Mentor A Prisoner
Help Prisoners Re-integrate
At The Prison Opticians Trust, we support offenders as they approach the end of their prison sentence and help them to successfully re-integrate back into society. However, the social stigma that still exists around prisoners makes it considerably more difficult for them to re-enter the workforce or the property market, for example – all of which increases their risk of re-offending. We therefore attempt to assist on issues concerning career advice, job applications and applying for rental accommodation where possible to ensure that our trainees can have the best possible start upon being released from prison.
We are looking for individuals to work with our trainees on a voluntary basis and provide assistance with completing applications, building a CV and developing interview skills amongst other duties. We are looking for people with:
- A Commitment to the Turst’s mission to reduce re-offending and to challenge the stigma around ex-offenders re-integrating into society
- The ability to commit to volunteering with us at least one day a month for 12 months
Previous experience advising the general public on issues such as housing or employment would be beneficial to your application but is not essential.
